About this kit
Your first robotics build: assemble a 4-motor chassis and wire it to a DPDT-switch remote control box. No microcontroller and no coding involved -- just electronics fundamentals. You will learn how positive/negative wiring works and how double-pole switches control motor direction, building the wiring intuition every later stage depends on.
What you'll build
4 hands-on builds included with this kit
1
Switch-controlled LED
Wire a single LED and 1K resistor to the battery through one DPDT switch, to see how flipping it reverses current direction before you touch a motor.
2
Two-motor test rig
Wire both BO motors to their own switch on the breadboard and confirm each spins forward and backward on command.
3
Assembled chassis
Mount the motors, wheels, and caster wheel onto the bot chassis so it's ready to carry its own power source.
4
Complete remote-control car
Combine the wired switches into the handheld remote box and drive the finished car forward, backward, left, and right.
What's in the box
13 line items — check everything before you start building
|
Bot chassis
The frame every other part mounts to. |
1 |
|
Wheels
Fit directly onto the drive motor shafts. |
2 |
|
Caster wheel
A free-spinning third wheel that balances the chassis without needing its own motor. |
1 |
|
DPDT switch
Flipping this double-pole switch reverses current through a motor, making it spin backward. |
2 |
|
DPDT remote box
Houses the switches so the car can be driven by hand from a distance. |
1 |
|
BO motor
Geared DC motors that turn the wheels. |
4 |
|
Breadboard
A solderless board for testing the wiring before it's final. |
1 |
|
8-core wire
Multi-strand cable carrying power between the remote box and the chassis. |
1.5 m |
|
AA battery holder
Holds the 4 AA cells that power the circuit. |
1 |
|
AA batteries
The kit's power source. |
4 |
|
LED
Used in the practice circuit to visualise current flow before wiring a motor. |
8 |
|
1K resistor
Limits current to the LEDs so they don't burn out. |
4 |
|
Screws, tape & zip ties
Mounting hardware for the chassis and tidying the wiring. |
